Program Overview
North Carolina Central University (NCCU) established a 16-month certificate program for pre-med, pre-dental, pre-pharmacy, and pre-physician’s assistant program students having a bachelor’s degree already. The program is under the Health Professions Career Center. The director is the program coordinator and advisor.
Note: Only students who have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and who meet all necessary prerequisites for MATH 2010 (Calculus 1) will be considered for admission. If an applicant does not meet the Calculus 1 requirement, the prerequisite should be completed before application. Additional requirements are as follows:
- Students must maintain at least a B average and a minimum of a C in every course.
- Students may be exempted from up to three 1000/2000-level courses based on their previous transcript.
- All courses must be completed within three (3) calendar years.
The major's course of study will have 43 total semester hours: 19 credits of chemistry courses, 12 credits of biology courses, 8 credits of physics courses, and 4 credits of math courses. At the completion of this post-baccalaureate program, for physician assistants, it is an additional 7 credit hours, for a total of 50 credit hours.
- Graduates should effectively communicate scientific information in both oral and written forms.
- Graduates will be able to locate, assess, interpret, and draw conclusions from scientific literature on appropriate scientific topics of interest.
- Graduates will be able to apply their scientific knowledge and solve scientific problems in chemistry, physics, and biology.
