Judge Tiffany Marie Whitfield was elected to serve Cumberland County’s 12th Judicial District Court in 2016. Her diverse background in criminal law has allowed her the opportunity to serve the community as both a public defender and an assistant district attorney (ADA). During her time as an ADA, her prosecutorial focus was on juvenile justice. Currently, she presides over cases in civil, family, and criminal district courts.
Judge Whitfield is a native of Fayetteville, NC, and a proud E. E. Smith High School alum. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Later she attended Law School at North Carolina Central University, where she obtained her Juris Doctor degree.
She is a member of Simon Temple AME Zion Church, The Junior League of Fayetteville, and the Upsilon Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a host of other community boards. Off the bench, volunteering to speak and mentor students at local schools is both a priority and passion to Judge Whitfield. She has also been honored with the Fayetteville Observer 40 under 40 Award.
