Marcus Thompson is committed to helping youth grow through education and sports. He is a graduate of North Carolina Central University and a 2019 graduate of Liberty University, where he earned a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Marcus currently serves as a student success advocate and the head women’s basketball coach at Fairmont High School in Robeson County, NC. During his time as a student success advocate, the suspension rate among males of color has significantly decreased. In the spring of 2019, he was charged with the task of turning the Women’s Basketball Program at Fairmont High School around, and he successfully moved them from a 0–22 record to a 9–15 record. Marcus is also the co-founder of SWEY Communities, a non-profit that promotes youth empowerment through educational opportunities in rural communities.
Aside from his professional capacity, he also volunteers actively with other organizations, such as mentoring programs, and Robeson United AAU. Marcus is active in spreading the gospel in his community. He feels that it is important for him to do his part by being a light in a dark and broken world.
He is married to Brendalyn Thompson, who is also a graduate of NCCU, and together they have three children.
