Assistant Professor, Medical Director of Child Protection Team, Augusta University
Dr. Kevin Allen currently serves as an assistant professor and medical director of the Child Protection Team for Augusta University. After becoming a pediatric emergency medicine physician, he recognized that minority populations are at higher risk for child abuse and voluntarily completed additional child abuse training to serve his community. He served as co-medical director for two years before progressing to his current role as medical director. Dr. Allen works alongside trauma surgeons to evaluate children for physical and sexual abuse and works with state and federal law enforcement, rape crisis advocates and trauma counselors to manage the cases of children traumatized by physical and sexual abuse, including sex-trafficking victims.
Dr. Allen volunteers with Safe Kids of Augusta to provide education regarding safe play habits for children. He volunteers with the African American Male Initiative, serving as a mentor to undergraduate minority males working to apply and enter medical school, and Project LAUNCH, an annual summer program that exposes local high school students to careers in science and healthcare.
He is an initiate of the Gamma Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and a member of the Atlanta Chapter of the NCCU Alumni Association.
