Frederick X. Ravin, III, was born in Pittsburgh, PA, but raised in Durham, NC, by his parents, Frederick X. Ravin Jr. and Lois D. Harvin-Ravin, both veterans of the United States Army. He is the husband to Samantha Ravin and the father of Carter and Parker Ravin.
In addition to the three degrees he earned from North Carolina Central University, Frederick also attained a BS in Marketing from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. His career trajectory has afforded him experience across both the financial and information technology sectors. He is a small business owner who has served as a consultant for other small businesses and nonprofit entities.
Even with his vast workforce experience, Frederick’s desire for community engagement is where he has thrived. He has been a member of the Durham Public Schools Budget Process Advisory Committee, PTA President for Oak Grove Elementary School, and Chairman of the Durham Special Needs Advisory Council (D-SNAC). Additionally, he has served on the Board of Directors for Evolve Mentoring and the Board of Directors for the Kappas of Durham Foundation, as vice president of the Durham-Orange County National Pan Hellenic Council and as chairman of the Board of Directors for the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People, Inc. He has also volunteered with the NCCU Office of Alumni Relations and the Alumni Homecoming Committee.
