Primary Purpose of Position
The Digital Navigator will support the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Digital Equity and Leadership Program (DELP), which is focused on bridging the digital divide in Durham, NC. The position will work with a team of external partner organizations to support individuals new to technology or needing help with digital literacy. The position is a term position tied to the grant funding period through October 14, 2025, or until grant funding depletes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess the digital literacy skills of individuals and identify areas where assistance is required
- Provide one-on-one or group training sessions to individuals on how to use digital devices, software applications, and the internet
- Assist individuals in accessing and using digital tools for job searching, online learning, and other purposes
- Serve as a digital equity specialist to embed with Kramden and Digital Durham, Durham County Library and School Foundation, and NCCU Office of Community Engagement
- Record requests for services in a customer relationship management system as well as report data about training engagements
- Provide assistance to individuals in creating and managing email accounts, social media profiles, and online accounts
- Provide support in troubleshooting basic technical issues and connecting to Wi-Fi networks
- Stay up-to-date with the latest digital technologies and tools to better serve individuals
- Keep detailed records of each client's progress and provide reports to the digital literacy coordinator
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions
- Participate in community outreach activities to promote digital literacy and awareness
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a graduate program in a relevant field such as Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, Education, Library Science, or Information Science
- Strong understanding of digital literacy and the ability to teach others effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience working with diverse populations and the ability to adapt to different learning styles
- Proficient in using various digital tools and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and social media platforms
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain client privacy
Note: For graduate assistants, continuation in DELP is subject to renewal based on performance.
