Pre and Post Award Overview

The Office of Sponsored Research and Programs (OSRP) has pre-award and post-award staff to assist in various areas of research administration, including budget development, proposal submission, financial reports, and budget setup.  Please use our list of work assignments to assist you in determining who to contact for assistance.

When thinking of applying for extramural funding, several policies and procedures need to be considered prior to or during the proposal preparation process.  Please see the Pre-Award Procedures document for details. Pre-award staff also manage the following system:

• Cayuse:  The University’s proposal and award management system.  All proposals are routed via this system for internal approval prior to submission to the funding agency.  

Once your project has been awarded, the financial management is handled in partnership with the principal investigator, the sponsoring agency, and many other University departments.  Please see the Post-Award Procedures document for details.  Post-award staff also manage the following systems:

• ECC: Employee Compensation Compliance is the system used to certify compensation paid to employees working on grant-funded projects at North Carolina Central University. Per the federal government, Uniform Guidance 2 CRF 200.201.b.3 requires certification for payroll distribution purposes for all payroll charges to federal contracts and grants.  
• Budget Transfers via SSB: Internal budget transfers can be submitted for grant funds via Self-Service Banner. See the Budget Transfer Process document for additional information.
