The Social Justice and Racial Equity Institute (SJREI) works with community partners to engage in community impact initiatives. The impact initiatives will be guided by the research, writing, training, and advocacy to provide direct assistance to individuals and communities in need. The impact initiatives will further be guided by the needs of the community as expressed by people directly impacted by social injustice and racial inequity, and community advocates and partners. The four pillars of the impact initiatives are four community centers, which include:
- A community justice research center that engages in interdisciplinary research on issues of economic, housing, health, education, and criminal justice.
- A community housing advocacy center that provides support and education for lower-income tenants and aspiring home owners.
- A community market and business center that facilitates a local market for minority vendors, healthy food providers, and justice-involved entrepreneurs with business support services.
- A community healing and counseling center that provides mental health services, family counseling, and restorative justice for lower-income community members.
