North Carolina Central University will transition to Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy effective through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The university is closely monitoring conditions on and around campus, as well as potential impacts from Duke Energy and other service providers. If necessary, Condition 2 may be extended.

Opportunities include student-run academic journals, dozens of interest-centered organizations, student governance, and a vibrant range of social and athletic activities.

In addition, the University and local community are both large enough to offer something to meet anyone’s interests and small enough to make active participation compatible with a student’s rigorous academic schedule.

NCCU School of Law values its reputation as a school that produces graduates who are skilled in law and balanced in life. The Office of Student Affairs works closely with the Student Bar Association and student organizations, coordinates extracurricular activities, and fosters interaction between students and faculty in a variety of settings. Some of the office’s specific responsibilities include the following:

  1. Coordinating first-year orientation
  2. Generally advising student organizations and leaders
  3. Updating the NCCU Student Handbook
  4. Coordinating the Law School graduation ceremony

Code of Conduct

The mission of the North Carolina Central University School of Law is to provide a challenging and broad-based educational program designed to stimulate intellectual inquiry of the highest order and to foster in each student a deep sense of professional responsibility and personal integrity so as to produce competent and socially responsible members of the legal profession.

The primary purpose for the Code of Student Conduct is to further this mission by ensuring the orderly functioning of the School, protecting the rights of its students, faculty, and staff, and furthering a community of respect and integrity.

Annual Award Ceremony

The following awards are presented as part of the Law School's annual award ceremony:

Book Awards are presented to the 1L/1LE student with the highest grade in LRA, Criminal Law, Civil Procedure, Contracts, and Property per section for each Fall semester.
The Dean’s Leadership Award is awarded to the student who has been active as a student leader or in serving the law school community.  There may be more than one winner for this award.
The Daniel G. Sampson Award for Scholarship is awarded to the student who has attained the highest academic average after three years in the day program and the student who has attained the highest academic average after four years in the evening program. 
The Floyd B. McKissick Award for Leadership and Scholarship is awarded to the student who has distinguished himself/herself/theirself because of his/her/their academic performance and outstanding service to the Law School community.
The H.M. Michaux Award for Public Service is awarded to the student who has distinguished himself/herself/theirself by his/her/their outstanding contribution to the community while enrolled as a student at NCCU School of Law. 
 The Judge Herbert Richardson Award for Outstanding Service to the Science and Intellectual Property Law Review (SIPLR) is awarded to the student who has made an outstanding contribution to the Law School by his/her/their service to the SIPLR.
The Clifton E. Johnson Award for Outstanding Service to the Moot Court Board is awarded to the student who has demonstrated outstanding service to the Law School as an advocate for the Moot Court Board. 
The Michael F. Easley Award for Outstanding Service to the Trial Advocacy Board is awarded to the student who has demonstrated outstanding service to the Law School as an advocate for the Trial Advocacy Board.
The Justice Robert Glass Award for Outstanding Service to the Law Review is awarded to the student who has made an outstanding contribution to the Law School by his/her/their service to the Law Review.
Clinic Program Award for outstanding students in the various clinic programs.
Spes Bona Award is presented to a graduating NCCU law student in the day program or the evening program who has achieved the highest increase in GPA from the end of their first year to their final year of law school.  “Spes bona” means “good hope,” recognizing the determination of students to succeed despite personal and academic challenges.
