Greetings from the Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences in the College of Health and Sciences at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). We are physically located in the Mary Townes Sciences Building, a state-of-the art teaching and research facility where we train students as scholars, scientists and innovative thinkers of the 21st Century and beyond. We also have offices, teaching and research facilities in the Lee Biology Building.
The department offers two undergraduate degree programs. The first is our traditional BS in Biology. The second is an innovative degree of BS in Biomedical Sciences that was implemented in the Fall of 2018. Both undergraduate degrees prepare students for many career paths such as in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy and many other allied health fields, as well as master’s and doctoral programs in the biological and biomedical sciences.
At the graduate level, the department offers an MS degree in Biomedical Sciences. The department is also a major stakeholder in the Integrated Biosciences (INBS) PhD program as it provides curriculum and faculty that support the INBS doctoral program.
Our faculty consists of individuals with excellent, world-class credentials, research expertise in the various fields of biological and biomedical sciences including Microbiology, Immunology, Genetics, Virology, Neuroscience, Toxicology, Cardiovascular Diseases, Cancer Biology, and many other exciting fields of studies. Several of our faculty have joint research appointments in the Julius L. Chamber’s Biomedical and Biotechnological Research Institute (JLC-BBRI). The department’s dedicated faculty is committed to teaching, research, and service and we place student success first and central in all that we do.
