Laboratory Training

The one-time Autoclave training ensures that persons who work with or use autoclaves are familiar with the proper operation and safety measures.

In compliance with the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (9 CFR 1910.1030), all employees who have occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens must receive initial and annual training on the epidemiology, symptoms and transmission of bloodborne pathogen diseases.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Biosafety Cabinet, Fume Hood and Centrifuge trainings are provided by the CDC to teach the proper use of these important engineering controls. The trainings must be taken by personnel who utilize this equipment when beginning work in the lab.

The Compressed Gas for Laboratorians training is required for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Materials standard 29 CFR 1910 Subpart H is for those who work with or around compressed hazardous gases. The training helps individuals understand the hazards associated with compressed gases, how to manage hazards and NCCU policies regarding compressed gas use.

The Formaldehyde training fulfills requirements set forth in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Formaldehyde Standard 29 CFR 1910.1048, OSHA Laboratory Standard 29 CFR 1910.1450 and the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 29 CFR 1910.1200.

The Lab Biosafety training provides an overview of biosafety for personnel working in labs with biological agents. This training is required initially, with a refresher every three years.

The Nanomaterials training provides information on the technology and potential hazards and risks involved in working with these materials in a laboratory setting. In addition, this training will discuss controls used to limit exposure and stay safe.

The Orientation for the Lab Environment is a required training for all new laboratorians (faculty, staff and students) and introduces laboratory safety at NCCU.
