North Carolina Central University’s (NCCU) online bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics has been recognized as one of the best in the nation, earning the No. 2 spot in the 2024 Forbes Advisor list.

The program was evaluated on several factors, including credibility, affordability, student outcomes, student experience and the application process. Data for these categories were sourced from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, private third-party sources and individual school and program websites.

NCCU’s program was the only historically Black college or university (HBCU) to make the list.

“North Carolina Central University’s Nutrition and Dietetics program is dedicated to empowering first-generation, non-traditional, and career-changing students,” said Jason O’Briant, Ph.D., RDN, LDN, director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics. “We provide personalized support to help students achieve their degrees, secure job placements and gain graduate admissions. Our instructors are consistently praised for their expertise, passion and commitment to creating a welcoming, supportive environment."

The online nutrition and dietetics bachelor’s degree program at NCCU is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). It is the first fully accredited distance education program for dietetics in North Carolina and the only online HBCU undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) in the country.

Students who complete the program are eligible to earn a verification statement, qualifying them to apply for dietetic internships and other graduate programs. The program boasts an 85% match rate to supervised practice programs, a 91% pass rate on the registration exam for dietitians and a 100% job placement rate.

In addition to its academic excellence, NCCU’s program is one of the most affordable undergraduate dietetics programs in the nation and currently offers the most cost-effective distance learning option for nutrition and dietetics students.
