Lakethia Jefferies is the director of the Pro Bono Clinic and Externships at North Carolina Central University School of Law, where she champions hands-on legal education and access to justice. She leads the Pro Bono Clinic, which delivers legal services in housing, elder law, and expunctions to individuals unable to afford representation. She also manages the law school’s externship program and teaches Pathways to Practice I and II, courses that bridge classroom learning with real-world legal skills and professional development.
Lakethia’s work and research lie at the intersection of technology and justice, with a focus on using innovation to dismantle barriers in the legal system. Through her clinical leadership, she explores how tech-driven solutions can expand pro bono efforts and close the justice gap.
Prior to joining NCCU Law, Lakethia served as director of Student Services at UNC School of Law, where she also taught Transition to the Profession to help first-year law students build a strong foundation for legal practice. She is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association, serving on both the Pro Bono and Minorities in the Profession Committees.
Originally from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Lakethia is a proud alumna of both UNC-Chapel Hill and NCCU Law. When she’s not working, she enjoys life with her husband and children and stays engaged in her local church community.
