Think about all of the valuable items that you will be bringing to your new home away from home (e.g., a laptop, tablet, smartphone, TV or gaming system). What would happen if they were lost, stolen or damaged?
Renter’s Insurance
The University assumes no responsibility or liability for the personal property of students. This includes damage due to fire, water, and theft.
We encourage all students to purchase some form of renter’s insurance while living in a residence hall. Students desiring protection from incidental damages must make their own arrangements for insurance. Families should check their homeowner’s insurance policy or contact their insurance agent to see if renter’s insurance is the best choice for their student. Check out these online resources below from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Consumer Affairs; they detail the value of renter’s insurance and provide consumers with some reviews on top renter's insurance companies.
One of our industry partners, National Student Services, Inc. (NSSI), provides insurance plans for students living in the residence halls. NSSI is not the only provider of insurance policies, and you are encouraged to find the company that best suits your needs. Below are links to a few more companies that specialize in providing renter's insurance to college students.
