Applying for the Cheatham-White Scholarship

To be eligible for nomination as a potential Cheatham-White Scholarship candidate, a person must satisfy all of the following criteria:

1. Be admitted as a freshman in the fall semester into a baccalaureate program at NCCU.
2. Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
3. Be on course to graduate from high school in the spring semester prior to college admission.
4. Have a minimum weighted or unweighted cumulative GPA of 4.0 or higher.
5. Have a minimum SAT score of 1280 or ACT score of 28. (Superscores are accepted. Test scores are required for those seeking the Cheatham-White Scholarship for the 2025–2026 academic year.)
6. Show exceptional qualities of character and leadership.
7. Be significantly involved in extracurricular activities.
8. Demonstrate a strong commitment to service.

Scholarships will be renewed annually contingent upon the recipient meeting all of the following criteria:

1. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 cumulative annually.
2. Enroll full time each semester and earn a minimum of 30 credit hours each academic year.
3. Maintain membership and active participation in the University Honors Program.

Submitting a Nomination

To begin the process, a student must be nominated by a high school administrator (principal, vice-principal, or guidance counselor); alternatively, they may self-nominate. A student is unable to complete an application for the Cheatham-White Scholarship until the nomination process has been completed.

High school administrators can submit nominations the Cheatham-White Scholarship Nomination Form.  Students may self-nominate in their Eagle Promise Portal after submitting an application for undergraduate admission.

Nominations must be completed by November 1.

Nominations for the 2025–2026 year will open on August 15, 2024.

Submitting an Application

After a nomination has been received and reviewed, the student will be provided access to the Cheatham-White Application. Students should complete the application in full, attach all supporting documents, and submit no later than December 15.
