The Office of External Affairs and Government Relations works cooperatively with elected officials from various local, state, and federal government entities. Our relationship is built upon key legislative issues that affect the university and the surrounding community. The office is responsible for engaging key stakeholders and university constituents in collaborative projects to enhance resources for educational programming.
In addition, External Affairs engages with government, corporate, educational, community, and philanthropic organizations to strengthen relationships and collaborative partnerships in building an effective model for research, business, social, and economic opportunities. The office also connects NCCU’s strategic priorities with community organizations and university constituents. As a result, the office has accomplished the following:
- Developed innovative partnerships with the Durham Chamber of Commerce, Durham county and city government, and corporations in Research Triangle Park, as well as others throughout the region and state, to support the goals and objectives of the university
- Engaged key business leaders and constituents to collaborate on institutional priorities
- Provided advocacy and support to legislators on current trends and bills affecting institutional effectiveness.
