The requirements for admission to North Carolina Central University include the following:
Academic performance and course selection.

  1. Evidence of graduation from an approved or accredited high school, a GED Certificate or Adult High School Diploma.
  2. Standardized test scores. A satisfactory score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing Program (ACT) if the applicant is applying for admission directly out of high school.
  3. Leadership and service opportunities. Evidence of participation in scholastic, community and civic organizations including leadership participation.
The minimum course requirements (MCRs) for North Carolina Central University and the University of North Carolina (UNC) system are the same and high school graduates are eligible for consideration if they successfully complete the following in grades 9-12:
  1. In English, four (4) course units College Prep English;
  2. In Mathematics, four (4) course units including Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and a fourth Math higher than Algebra II; or Algebra I, Algebra II and two (2) course units maths higher than Algebra II
  3. In Science, three (3) course units including one must be a lab science;
  4. In Foreign Language, two (2) course units;
  5. In Social Studies, two (2) course units, including one unit in United States History.
NOTES:
  • Students who graduated from high school prior to 1990 should contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office to determine specific high school course requirements required for admission.
  • All freshmen may be required to take various tests as a part of their orientation and the follow-up procedures of the University.
  • Students who graduate high school in and after 2006 must have one additional math course from the following: Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Calculus, Integrated Math Level III, Integrated Math IV, Discrete Math, Advanced Models and Functions or any upper level IB Math Courses. Any Advance Placement (AP) Math courses and Dual Enrollment Math Courses, used towards graduation credit, will count as well.
