NCCU handicap parking permits are required by individuals using a “distinguishing license plate” or a “distinguishing removable hangtag” issued by their state Division of Motor Vehicles that displays the International Symbol of Access. Vehicles utilizing handicap parking spaces on campus are required to display State Motor Vehicle distinguishing identification and the University’s handicapped parking permit.
Handicap parking is located in all areas of campus in accordance with NC G.S. 136-30 and the American Disabilities Act. Signs area posted which designate parking spaces for handicapped persons and state the maximum penalty for parking in the space in violation of the law. Individuals authorized for handicap parking may also utilize State, Commuter, Resident, and University Registered zones and spaces. Qualifying vehicles may park for unlimited periods in parking zones or spaces restricted as to the length of time parking is permitted, such as metered spaces.
Enforcement of Handicapped Parking: It shall be unlawful (1) to park or leave standing in a space designated with a sign for handicapped parking, any vehicle not displaying a distinguishing license plate, removable hangtag, or temporary removable hangtag; (2) for any person not qualifying for the rights and privileges extended to handicapped persons to exercise or attempt to exercise such rights or privileges by the unauthorized use of a distinguishing license plate, removable hangtag, or temporary removable hangtag; and (3) to park or leave standing any vehicle so as to obstruct a curb or curb cut for handicapped persons. Vehicles found in violation of the above regulations will be cited and towed at the owner’s expense.
